Mr. Zhirayr Ananyan, Deputy Permanent Representative of the Republic of Armenia to the United Nations, delivered a statement at the UN Security Council Open Debate titled “Leadership for Peace”, held under the presidency of Slovenia on 15 December 2025.
In his remarks, Mr. Ananyan underscored that unresolved challenges of the past, present threats, and future uncertainties serve as a clear reminder of the indispensability of multilateralism, with the United Nations at its core. At a time of heightened geopolitical turbulence and alarming polarization, he emphasized that the United Nations is more relevant than ever in leading international efforts to prevent conflicts, strengthen the global peace and security architecture, promote sustainable development, and uphold human rights and human dignity.
Addressing recent regional developments, the Deputy Permanent Representative stressed that Armenia expects the 10th Secretary-General of the United Nations to consistently support efforts aimed at sustaining and reinforcing peace in the South Caucasus. He underlined that these efforts must be firmly anchored in the purposes and principles of the UN Charter and international law, particularly the principles of sovereign equality and territorial integrity of states.
